Giorgio de Chirico (Greece 1888 – 1978 Italy) He was born in Greece, later moving to Italy where he established the principles of the “Scuola Metafisica” art movement with his brother in 1917. This movement, in turn, strongly influenced the surrealists of the early 20th century. The perspectives in Chirico’s Metaphysical artwork are non binding, defy reality as the artist creates sharp plays between light and shadow, thus creating an air of mystery and suspense in his work.
