Staffordshire Potteries became a hub of ceramic production in the early 17th century due to the local accessibility of clay, salt, lead and coal. As the industry grew, Staffordshire Pottery became a collective name for the industrial area encompassing the six towns Burslem, Fenton,  Hanley,  Longton, Stoke and Tunstall that today make up the city of Stoke-on-Trent in the county of Staffordshire, England.
